Talk title: From Methane to Microplastics: Advancing In Situ Chemical Sensing

Abstract
Through the development of new in situ chemical sensors will come a greater understanding of ocean biogeochemistry. Recent advances in chemical sensors have already started to revolutionize oceanography and even expand the breadth and depth of ocean exploration.  Sensors that can make measurements over broad spatial and temporal scales that are easily deployable are of critical importance in a range of locations, from the coastal environment to the open ocean. Here I will present our recent developments in oceanographic chemical sensing.  I will describe the sensors that we have developed and the vehicles and platforms we are using to deploy them. I will share results from recent field work in locations ranging from the Arctic to the deep sea where measurements have been made at hydrothermal vents and methane seeps.
